Letting Go and Leaning In

Self Care 7.15.2024

I believe is something we all struggle with and feel for some reason undeserving of, when in fact this should be at the top of your non negotiable list.

Could it be because of our busy lives, endless lists, FOMO, social media, paying bills, expectations, status, saying yes way too much, and trying to get in as much as we can each day with a mentality of working harder not smarter. These examples just tip the iceberg of how we humans operate on a daily basis.

Ask yourself, what would my life be like if I just added some self care? Managed my time differently, prioritized my health, me time, time for family or friends, a new hobby or a quiet space to decompress without notifications, bells and whistles blaring.

Learning to unplug is the first step. I am still learning this myself. I have always worked hard for what I want in life but as I have learned and still learning, it comes with balance. As a busy stylist, balance is what keeps me going, showing up and I feel better for it personally, professionally, emotionally and spiritually.

What does self care look like for you? Its different for everyone, and rightfully so, since we are individuals and have individual needs.

For me I have found that yoga and mediation, being in nature, walking , hiking , sitting by the water, or taking a road trip in my jeep to decompress is a beautiful thing. Adventure, freedom, creativity and joy represent self care. Writing, music, art and taking pictures are all creative forms that allow me to get out of my head.

The practice of being present , enjoying the journey, the company of family, friends, a warm mug of coffee or tea, a glass of wine to toast, food that warms the soul and a trip for a new experience can give you a beautiful balance in your life. Do take moments to pause, appreciate where you are, your season, feel thankful and practice gratitude. Lean in to curiosity and let go to whatever isn’t serving you!!
